Does India give foreign aid?
Yes, India does give out foreign aid to other countries. In 2008, it gave over $500 million in foreign aid to poorer countries. Many people think that this is a contradiction since India still receives a lot of foreign aid, and also considering the fact that there are more poor people in India than there are in Sub-Saharan Africa. But, foreign aid can also be politically motivated. In August of 2010, India actually gave a loan of $1 billion to Bangladesh – the largest loan it has ever given to another country. But, that loan is to be used by Bangladesh primarily for it’s infrastructure development – so the money is both a mix of self-interest and generosity on India’s part.
